I’m looking for a small and very lightweight laptop.
I have my old laptop for more than three years (even the extended guarantee expired) and I’m thinking of first getting me a lightweighter that I can really carry around all the time. The idea is that it would let me do little things – corrections really – and also use it instead of my current paper notebook.
I don’t think it should/will replace my current laptop that will probably be changed to another portable workstation (I’m using this term for laptops with more that 3kg that you mostly have on your desk and use for day to day work) sometime next year (before summer if Vista is stable by then).
In any case – do you have one? Why do you (dis)like it? Do you know one that is supposed to be awsome?
I would suggest you to look at toshiba portege series.
They are exacly what you are looking for.
And for that case me too.. I will get myself something like that when vista is avalibale and preinstaled on it :-)
Seems like Toshiba is the worst on this front – either it’s too heavy (Protege M400) or the screen resolution is too low (Protege R200). Sony seems to be the best but is also a bit pricey (Vaio TX). HP is adequate (nc2400) but doesn’t really look that nice. Dell (Latitude D420) is nice but a bit bigger than others. I never liked what IBM looked like so Lenovo is kinda out. Haven’t checked others yet.
Sony has a wonderful case and IBM/Lenovo a wonderful keyboard. I’m not quite sure what I’ll buy when it comes time, but it will probably be one of them.
In other news, I don’t care when Vista is out.
Acer also has a nice one in Travelmate 3010/3020 but it is a bit heavier than others at 1.65kg/1.5kg with the light battery. Dell is 1.36kg as the next one in the “highest weight” competition.
